What is GnuCash?
GnuCash keeps personal and small-business finances in a set of accounts rather than a simple spending list. Its checkbook-style register handles everyday transactions, while double-entry bookkeeping links the money leaving one account to the account receiving it. You can reconcile entries against bank statements and use reports to review income, expenses and account balances.
For recurring bills, scheduled transactions provide reminders and repeat entries. Multiple-currency accounts and investment tracking support more complex finances; customer and vendor tracking, invoicing and bill payment extend the same application to small-business records. QIF and OFX import help bring existing financial records into the accounts.
The linked GnuCash 5.17 DMG is for Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 11 Big Sur or later. The publisher offers a separate Intel package for macOS 10.13 High Sierra or later. Choose the package for your Mac rather than treating this download as universal. The publisher also warns that SQL database storage is experimental and that some corner cases have caused data loss; XML is the default storage format.
The screenshot is a publisher documentation example of the account tree with multiple currencies and investments. Its window styling is not presented as the current macOS interface.
