What is Godot Engine?
Godot Engine brings scene editing, scripting and game-building tools into one application. Arrange nodes into reusable scenes, add game logic with GDScript, and work with a dedicated 2D workflow or a 3D viewport. Its tile map editor and flexible UI system help build levels and menus, while 3D imports accept Blender, glTF and FBX assets.
This entry links to the standard Godot 4.7.2 macOS universal ZIP for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. Extract the archive and run the self-contained editor. Choose the separate .NET edition and install the .NET SDK if your project needs C#; the standard download here is not that edition. Export templates are also a separate download when you are ready to package a game.
Check your renderer before choosing an older Mac: the publisher documentation lists macOS 10.13 for Compatibility and macOS 10.15 for Forward+/Mobile, with a 4 GB RAM minimum for the native editor on simple projects. These are baseline requirements, not a performance guarantee for a complex game. Godot is MIT-licensed; include the engine copyright and license notice when distributing it with your game.
What it offers
- Compose reusable scenes from nodes and customize behavior with scripts.
- Write game logic with built-in GDScript, including optional static typing.
- Create 2D levels with a dedicated pixel-based workflow, tile map editor and GUI tools.
- Edit 3D scenes and import Blender, glTF and FBX assets.
- Export projects to supported desktop, mobile and web targets using separately downloaded export templates.
Good to know
- The linked standard editor does not include C#/.NET support; use the separate .NET edition and install the .NET SDK for C# projects.
- Export templates are downloaded separately from the editor.
- Older Macs need a compatible renderer: publisher minimums differ between Compatibility and Forward+/Mobile. The 4 GB RAM minimum covers simple projects, not every game.
