What is HexWalk?

HexWalk lets you inspect a file as hexadecimal bytes alongside its text representation, make byte-level edits and compare binary files. It is useful when investigating file headers, locating a known byte sequence or examining data that a text editor cannot represent clearly. Advanced Find supports hexadecimal patterns, UTF-8, UTF-16 and regular expressions.

Analysis tools include entropy analysis, a byte map, hash calculation, numeric conversion and byte patterns for parsing headers. The disassembler supports x86, ARM and MIPS code. The binary analyzer offers built-in HexDig scanning and extraction, with Binwalk available as an alternative engine.

This download is the Windows x64 EXE installer for version 2.2.1. The installer bundles the 7z tool used by HexDig for archive extraction. Binwalk is not the built-in engine: choosing it requires a separate installation. The publisher also offers a portable Windows ZIP, but that is not the package linked here.

What it offers

  • View and edit hexadecimal bytes alongside their text representation.
  • Search for hexadecimal, UTF-8, UTF-16 and regular-expression patterns.
  • Compare binary files and use byte patterns to parse headers.
  • Examine entropy and byte maps, calculate hashes and convert binary, decimal and hexadecimal values.
  • Scan binary signatures with built-in HexDig and disassemble x86, ARM and MIPS code.

Good to know

  • The optional Binwalk analysis engine requires a separate installation; HexDig is the built-in default.
  • The linked installer is Windows x64, not a native ARM64 or 32-bit package.
