What is ILSpy?

ILSpy helps .NET developers inspect compiled assemblies when they need to understand types, follow method references or read decompiled C#. Its assembly browser combines search and hyperlink navigation with whole-project decompilation, so you can examine one member or work through a larger codebase. The metadata explorer exposes the underlying tables in a .NET PE image for lower-level inspection.

The publisher also lists BAML-to-XAML decompilation and ReadyToRun support. ILSpy 11 uses an Avalonia desktop interface; the publisher documentation screenshot below illustrates the metadata explorer in an older Windows WPF interface, not the appearance of version 11.2.

The selected download is the stable 11.2 Windows x64 MSI, rather than the older preview still shown on the Softonic listing. The release requires .NET 10.0 to be installed beforehand. Decompilation output needs review: the publisher release notes continue to document fixes for incorrect output and decompilation exceptions.

What it offers

  • Decompile .NET assemblies to C#, including whole-project decompilation.
  • Search for types, methods and properties, then follow hyperlinks between members.
  • Inspect assembly metadata tables with the metadata explorer.
  • Decompile BAML to XAML and inspect supported ReadyToRun binaries.

Good to know

  • The 11.2 release requires .NET 10.0 to be installed before use.
  • Decompiled output can contain errors; the publisher documents ongoing correctness fixes, so it should not be treated as guaranteed original source.
