What is JDownloader?
JDownloader is a free, open-source download manager for keeping file transfers under control. You can start, stop or pause downloads, set a bandwidth limit and let the application extract supported archives automatically. It is useful when you want a dedicated download queue rather than managing each transfer separately in a browser.
The linked DMG is the Apple Silicon package with Java 21, served from the publisher's installer domain and identified in Homebrew's package metadata. Intel Macs need a different installer. The publisher also provides separate macOS packages for different system versions on its optional-software-offers-free download page.
JDownloader does not remove a file host's restrictions: downloads can still wait for a host-imposed delay, a CAPTCHA or an account requirement. Website changes can also require plugin updates. The screenshot shows an older Mac configuration interface from Softonic's gallery, not a verified preview of the current JDownloader 2 layout.
What it offers
- Start, stop and pause downloads from a dedicated download manager.
- Set bandwidth limits to control download traffic.
- Automatically extract supported downloaded archives.
- Receive host-plugin updates through JDownloader's built-in update system.
Good to know
- Host waiting periods, CAPTCHA prompts and account restrictions can still prevent downloads from starting.
- This DMG is for Apple Silicon Macs; Intel Macs require a separate package.
- Changes to supported websites can require plugin updates; some fixes must wait for a core update and restart.
