What is JetBrains Rider?
JetBrains Rider is an IDE for developing .NET applications and games on macOS. Its editor combines C# code completion with code inspections, navigation, and refactoring tools. A debugger, unit test runner, version control tools, and database support let you investigate a project without moving every task into a separate application. ASP.NET Core developers also get JavaScript and TypeScript tooling for web frontends. Rider supports game development with Unity, Unreal Engine, and Godot.
The linked DMG is Rider 2026.2.3.1 for Apple silicon (ARM64), not the separate Intel Mac package. JetBrains lists macOS 15 and 26 in its current installation requirements, with 8 GB of total RAM and 10 GB of disk space. Java does not need to be installed separately because JetBrains Runtime is bundled. Frameworks and deployment targets can have additional platform-specific requirements.
Rider is free for individual non-commercial work such as learning and hobby projects under JetBrains’ terms. Developing commercial products or providing paid services requires a commercial license; a 30-day trial is available. Core editing, inspections, refactoring, debugging, and the test runner work without AI. The publisher screenshot illustrates the macOS IDE layout and is not a claim to show the selected release.
What it offers

- Use integrated version control, SQL editing, and database tools.
- Develop supported Unity, Unreal Engine, and Godot game projects.
Good to know
- Free use is limited to individual non-commercial activity under JetBrains’ terms; commercial products and paid services require a commercial license.
- This download is the ARM64 DMG for Apple silicon Macs; Intel Macs require the separate x86_64 package.
- Some frameworks, deployment targets, and profiling features have platform-specific requirements; macOS support does not make every .NET target available on a Mac.
