What is Logisim-evolution?

Logisim-evolution lets you draw digital logic circuits and observe how their signals behave. Place components, connect them with wires and change inputs to explore a design. Its component library and circuit simulator suit learning digital logic and developing circuit examples without starting with a physical board.

A chronogram displays signal changes over time. VHDL components let you describe component behavior, while electronic-board integration provides a path from circuit schematics to supported hardware. These are digital-logic design tools, rather than a general-purpose illustration canvas.

The linked version 5.0.0 DMG is for Apple Silicon Macs and includes the Java runtime. Intel Macs need the publisher's separate x86_64 package. The publisher warns that the macOS app is not signed with an Apple-approved certificate, so normal macOS security checks can prevent an ordinary first launch. Consult the publisher's macOS notes before choosing the package.

The screenshot is an older publisher example of version 3.5.0 on Kubuntu. It illustrates the circuit workspace, not the appearance of version 5.0.0 on macOS.

What it offers

  • Draw and simulate digital logic circuits using a graphical circuit designer.
  • Inspect signal changes over time with the chronogram.
  • Build designs from a component library that includes LEDs, TTL components, switches and systems on a chip.
  • Specify component behavior with VHDL components.
  • Use electronic-board integration for supported real hardware.

Good to know

  • The publisher states that the macOS app is not signed with an Apple-approved certificate; macOS security checks can complicate its first launch.
  • The linked DMG targets Apple Silicon, not Intel Macs; the publisher provides a separate x86_64 package.
