What is Milkman?
Milkman is a JavaFX request-and-response workbench for developers working with APIs. Its included HTTP plugin lets you compose HTTP and REST requests, edit headers and bodies, and inspect responses with JSON highlighting. Workspaces, environments and collections keep related requests together, while importers support moving request data from Postman or Insomnia.
The plugin system extends the workbench beyond HTTP: available extensions add gRPC, GraphQL and SQL through JDBC, along with scripting, request testing and Git workspace synchronization. Those capabilities depend on the corresponding plugins rather than being interchangeable features of every package. The publisher instructs users to obtain and install the additional plugin archive when needed.
This download is the publisher's version 5.12.0 macOS application-bundle TGZ archive. Minimum macOS version and CPU-family compatibility were not established from the inspected sources. The GraphQL plugin is also limited: the publisher documents no autocomplete or schema validation. The accompanying publisher screenshot illustrates Milkman's Mac-style workbench, not a verified capture of version 5.12.0.
What it offers
- Compose HTTP and REST requests with editable headers and bodies, JSON highlighting and proxy configuration.
- Organize requests into workspaces and collections with environment variables.
- Import request data from Postman or Insomnia through the HTTP plugin's importers.
- Extend request types with plugins for gRPC, GraphQL and SQL via JDBC.
- Add scripting, sequential request tests or Git workspace synchronization using the corresponding plugins.
Good to know
- Additional capabilities require the relevant plugins; the publisher provides a separate plugin archive and installation instructions.
- The publisher describes the GraphQL plugin as lacking autocomplete and schema validation.
- Minimum macOS version and CPU-family support for the selected macos64 application bundle were not verified.
