What is MySQL?
MySQL Community Server is a relational database server for applications that need to store, update and retrieve structured data using SQL. Community Edition is freely downloadable under the GPL. Stored procedures, triggers, views and replication support database logic and data-sharing workflows.
The selected Windows download is the MySQL Community Server 26.10.0 x64 MSI, not a bundle of every MySQL development tool. The publisher documents an included MySQL Configurator for server setup; applications may also need a separate connector, such as Connector/ODBC or Connector/NET.
Installing the files is not the final setup step: the server will not start until configured. Oracle’s Windows manual also lists the Microsoft Visual C++ 2019 Redistributable as a prerequisite. The gallery image is a historical MySQL Server 4.1 configuration wizard from Softonic, not a preview of the 26.10 interface.
