What is NAPS2?

NAPS2 turns documents from a connected scanner into PDFs or image files on your Mac. Create a scan profile with your device, page size and resolution, then reuse it when adding more pages. Before saving, you can rearrange pages, rotate or crop images, and adjust brightness and contrast. OCR adds searchable text to PDFs, with support for over 100 languages.

The universal PKG linked here is version 8.6.0 for Intel and Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 12 or later. Scanner support depends on the device and connection: the Mac edition offers Apple, SANE and ESCL drivers, rather than the Windows WIA/TWAIN choices. The publisher recommends trying a different driver if a scanner is missing. SANE supports some USB scanners; ESCL is intended for compatible modern network scanners. macOS 10.15 and 11 require the older 7.5.3 release, not this package.

What it offers

  • Save scanned documents as PDF, TIFF, JPEG or PNG.
  • Reuse scan profiles containing the selected device, page size and resolution.
  • Rearrange, rotate and crop pages; adjust image brightness and contrast.
  • Add searchable text to PDFs with OCR in over 100 languages.
  • Choose Apple, SANE or ESCL scanning drivers on macOS to suit the scanner and connection.

Good to know

  • This 8.6.0 package requires macOS 12 or later. The publisher directs macOS 10.15 and 11 users to version 7.5.3.
  • Scanner compatibility is device- and driver-dependent. SANE supports only some USB scanners; a missing scanner may require switching drivers.
