What is Nheko?
Nheko is a native desktop client for Matrix, with a room list, conversation timeline and support for sharing files alongside messages. It suits people who want a desktop interface for Matrix rooms rather than a browser-based client. You can create and join rooms, exchange invitations, reply with text or media, and use custom stickers and emoji. Light, dark and system themes provide different display options.
End-to-end encryption is supported, but the publisher explicitly says its implementation has never been audited and makes no security guarantees. Nheko's documented D-Bus plugin interface is not available on macOS. The linked 0.12.1 DMG is for Apple silicon Macs; the publisher lists a separate Intel DMG in the same release. The screenshot illustrates the publisher's desktop interface on Linux, not a verified capture of this Mac release.
