What is NoteHighlight2016?
NoteHighlight2016 formats source code inside OneNote notes. Choose a language from the NoteHighlight ribbon, enter a snippet in the pop-up editor and press OK to put highlighted code on the page. It is useful for keeping readable code examples alongside technical notes, rather than moving those examples into a separate document.
You can also select existing text or an already formatted code box, choose a language and reopen it in the add-in's form to edit the text or formatting. Settings let you add or remove languages from the ribbon; those changes require restarting OneNote.
This is an add-in for the desktop OneNote versions named by the publisher, not a standalone code editor. Match the installer to Office bitness: the linked NoteHighlight2016.msi is for 64-bit Office, while 32-bit Office requires the separate NoteHighlight2016x86.msi. The project documents OneNote 2016 and OneNote for Office 365; it does not provide a current Windows/Office build certification matrix in the cited README.
What it offers
- Insert syntax-highlighted source code into a OneNote page through a language-specific ribbon command.
- Reopen selected text or an existing code box to edit its contents and formatting.
- Choose formatting styles in the NoteHighlight editor shown in the publisher's usage screenshot.
- Add or remove languages from the ribbon through Settings, with a OneNote restart to apply changes.
Good to know
- Requires a supported desktop OneNote host: the publisher names OneNote 2016 and OneNote for Office 365. It is not a standalone editor.
- Installer bitness must match Office: this download is for 64-bit Office, not the separate 32-bit Office package.
- The cited publisher documentation does not certify individual current Windows or Office builds; compatibility was not tested for this entry.
