What is OpenRocket?

OpenRocket helps model-rocket builders work out a design before constructing it. Assemble a rocket from components, adjust dimensions and materials, and inspect how changes affect its center of gravity, center of pressure and predicted flight performance. Its component and motor databases provide starting points for comparing designs rather than drawing every part from scratch.

Flight simulations let you compare motor configurations and examine results in configurable plots. Multi-stage designs, clustered motors and wind settings at different altitudes support more detailed flight scenarios. Simulation data can be exported to CSV for further analysis, while SVG fin export can take a fin outline into a separate CAD or laser-cutting workflow.

This entry links to the OpenRocket 24.12 Windows x86-64 EXE installer. The publisher also offers a separate Windows ARM64 package. OpenRocket uses extended Barrowman calculations for stability; the publisher lists CFD aerodynamic computation as a future feature, not an included capability. The gallery image shows an older Spanish-language Windows interface, not a verified view of version 24.12.

What it offers

  • Build model-rocket designs from a component library or define custom components and materials.
  • Inspect center of gravity, center of pressure and predicted flight performance while editing.
  • Simulate six-degree-of-freedom flight, including staged rockets and clustered motors.
  • Configure wind at different altitudes and compare simulation results in plots or CSV exports.
  • Export fin outlines to SVG for use in CAD or laser-cutting workflows.

Good to know

  • Not a CFD aerodynamic solver: the publisher lists CFD computation as a future feature and describes stability calculations as using an extended Barrowman method.
  • The linked installer targets Windows x86-64; Windows ARM64 uses a separate publisher package.
