What is PDFsam Basic?
PDFsam Basic organizes PDF documents without uploading them to a web service. Use it to combine complete files or selected page ranges, divide a long document, rotate pages or extract only the pages you need. Its alternate-mix tool interleaves pages from separate files, useful for putting odd and even scans back together.
The merge tool includes choices for bookmarks, interactive form fields and a table of contents. Splitting can follow page numbers, bookmark levels or an approximate target file size. Basic is a page-management application rather than a full PDF content editor; the publisher offers separate products for more extensive editing.
This download is the version 6.0.6 DMG for Apple silicon Macs (ARM64). The publisher also provides a separate Intel 64-bit DMG and portable archives on its download page. The screenshot illustrates the publisher’s cross-platform Merge interface; it is not a capture of this package running on macOS.
What it offers
- Merge PDFs or selected page ranges, with bookmark and interactive-form handling options.
- Split PDFs at selected pages, by bookmark level or by approximate file size.
- Rotate selected pages by 90, 180 or 270 degrees and extract page ranges into another PDF.
- Interleave pages from separate PDFs in straight or reverse order.
- Insert the same PDF or selected pages repeatedly within another document.
Good to know
- Basic focuses on PDF page operations, not full text editing, conversion or OCR.
- Splitting by file size targets an approximate size, not an exact byte count.
- The linked ARM64 DMG is for Apple silicon; Intel Macs require the separate Intel package.
