What is Pencil Project?
Pencil Project helps you sketch application screens, website layouts and diagrams before implementation. Its built-in collections include desktop and web controls, Android and iOS interface shapes, general-purpose shapes and flowchart elements. Place shapes on the canvas, connect them into diagrams or link elements to other pages in the same document to describe a user journey.
Export drawings as PNG images for review, or export to a web page to preserve inter-page links as clickable navigation. That HTML output simulates movement between mockup screens; it is not a finished application. Version 4.0.0 also adds an embedded Model Context Protocol (MCP) server so a connected external AI assistant can inspect stencils and edit the open canvas.
This entry links to the publisher's Windows EXE installer for version 4.0.0. The download catalog does not specify the Windows CPU architecture or minimum Windows release, so compatibility with a particular machine is not confirmed here. The screenshot is the publisher's Pencil UI illustration, not evidence of an installation or test on Windows. The old OpenClipart pane mentioned on the general features page was removed in the 4.0.0 release notes.
What it offers
- Build mockups using built-in desktop, web, Android and iOS interface stencils.
- Combine flowchart shapes and connectors to describe processes and screen relationships.
- Link shapes to other pages in the same document and preserve those links in HTML exports.
- Export drawings as PNG images or web pages for review.
- Connect an external AI assistant through the built-in MCP server in version 4.0.0 to query stencils and edit the canvas.
Good to know
- Linked HTML exports simulate navigation between mockup pages rather than delivering a finished application.
- The Windows download listing does not identify the CPU architecture or minimum Windows version.
- AI-assisted canvas editing requires a connected external MCP client; the embedded server is not itself an AI model.
- The obsolete OpenClipart pane was removed in version 4.0.0, despite its continued mention on the general features page.
