What is QLogExplorer?

QLogExplorer turns log entries into a searchable table. Use it to separate timestamps, severity levels, thread identifiers and messages, then narrow the results to the entries relevant to an investigation. Its templates save column layouts, highlighting rules and predefined searches so a familiar log format does not need to be configured each time.

For plain-text logs, column extraction depends on a regular expression with capture groups that matches the file's format. NDJSON logs already carry named fields and do not need that extraction regex. Searches can combine substring, regex and range conditions with AND or OR, target individual columns and exclude unwanted matches.

The publisher describes chunk-based indexing rather than loading an entire file into memory, with browsing and searching available during indexing. This is a description of the design, not an independently measured performance result. The linked download is the v1.2.1 Win64 EXE installer; a portable ZIP is offered separately on GitHub. The reviewed publisher pages do not establish a minimum Windows version or build.

What it offers

  • Split plain-text log entries into named columns using regex capture groups.
  • Read JSON log entries in NDJSON format without a column-extraction regex.
  • Combine substring, regex and range search parameters with AND, OR and exclusions.
  • Save column layouts, highlighting rules and predefined searches in reusable templates.
  • Browse and search during chunk-based indexing, according to the publisher's documentation.

Good to know

  • Plain-text column extraction requires a regex suited to the log format; a template for another format may not match.
  • A minimum supported Windows version or build was not established by the reviewed publisher pages.
