What is RegScanner?
RegScanner searches the Windows Registry and collects matching keys and values in a single results list. It suits locating a setting across multiple keys without stepping through each match separately in RegEdit. Searches can use text, value type, data length or a key's modification time; Unicode strings inside binary values are also supported. Double-click a result to open the corresponding location in RegEdit, or export found values to a .reg file.
The linked download is the publisher's x64 ZIP package. RegScanner runs as a standalone executable without an installation process. NirSoft lists support from Windows XP through Windows 11 and offers a separate standard package.
Registry deletion has explicit restrictions: RegScanner will not delete a key that contains subkeys, and it refuses deletion if it cannot create its .bak backup file. Remote Registry searches require an administrator login on the remote computer and may be slow. The screenshot shows the publisher/source-distributed classic Windows interface, not a newly captured installation or proof of the current version's appearance.
What it offers
- Display matching Registry keys and values together in one results list.
- Filter by text, value type, data length or key modification time, including case-sensitive text searches.
- Find Unicode strings stored inside binary Registry values.
- Open a selected result in RegEdit or export found values to a .reg file.
Good to know
- Deletion skips keys with subkeys and does not proceed if RegScanner cannot create its .bak backup file.
- Searching a remote computer's Registry requires an administrator login on that computer and may be slow.
