WebView2 must already be installed. MSIX updates are managed by the deployer. The publisher also lists separate ARM64 MSIX and EXE/MSI distribution options; this link is x64 MSIX only.

What is Routebase?
Routebase brings API design, documentation, mocking and contract testing into an account-based workspace. Start with an existing OpenAPI YAML or JSON file, create endpoints from scratch, or use a specification template. Endpoints, parameters, responses and reusable schemas describe the contract that the other tools work from, rather than maintaining unrelated copies for each stage.
The Windows desktop app opens the same projects and data as the browser client. Its practical additions are native notifications when a test run finishes, operating-system save dialogs for exports and response bodies, and session storage in Windows Credential Manager. Closing the window leaves Routebase running in the system tray; use Quit to exit it.
The linked download is the publisher's Intel/AMD x64 MSIX, intended for managed Windows deployment, not its ordinary EXE installer. Windows 11 is the supported target and WebView2 must already be present. Administrators can deploy the package through Intune as a line-of-business app. MSIX installations do not use the desktop app's self-updater: the deployer must distribute new packages.
A free account is available, but installing the desktop client does not unlock every service feature. The Free plan is limited to one user, two projects, three specifications per project, 1,000 mock requests per month and 100 test runs per month. Scheduled tests require Starter or above; spec branches, merge requests and API monitoring require Pro or above. Choose the plan for the workflow you need, not just the ability to install the client.
What it offers
- Build API specifications from OpenAPI YAML or JSON, a blank specification or a template.
- Define endpoints, parameters, responses and reusable schemas in the API Designer.
- Use specification-driven documentation, mock servers and contract testing in one workspace, subject to plan limits.
- Receive native desktop notifications for completed test runs and save exports through Windows file dialogs.
- Access the same workspace as the browser client, with desktop sessions stored in Windows Credential Manager.
Good to know
- Requires a Routebase account. The Free plan has one user, two projects, three specs per project, 1,000 monthly mock requests and 100 monthly test runs.
- Scheduled tests need Starter or above; branching, merge requests and monitoring need Pro or above. Custom documentation domains require paid Pro or Enterprise and are excluded from the trial.
- This x64 MSIX requires WebView2 and targets Windows 11. The publisher says Windows 10 1809 or later may install it, but that configuration is untested and unsupported.
- MSIX deployments do not self-update; whoever deploys the package is responsible for updates.
