What is SnapGene?
SnapGene is molecular biology software for planning, visualizing and documenting DNA cloning and PCR. It brings sequence maps, primer design and cloning simulation into one workspace, with a graphical history that records the steps leading to a construct. Researchers can use it to inspect plasmids, annotate sequence features and plan cloning procedures before laboratory work.
SnapGene and SnapGene Viewer are now one application. Free Viewer mode lets you view, annotate and share sequence files, but sequence editing, alignment and cloning require the unrestricted version. The publisher offers a 30-day trial, limited to one trial per computer; continued unrestricted use requires a license.
This entry links to the publisher-listed Windows 8.2.3 EXE installer. The publisher supports this release series on 64-bit Windows 10 version 1809 or later and Windows 11; Windows on ARM is not officially supported. The gallery image illustrates the Insert Fragment interface with macOS window controls, not a native Windows capture or verification of the 8.2.3 interface.
What it offers
- Plan and simulate DNA cloning and PCR procedures in the unrestricted application.
- Visualize plasmid maps and annotate sequence features.
- Design primers and inspect their binding sites.
- Record sequence edits and cloning procedures in a graphical history.
- View, annotate and share sequence files in free Viewer mode.
Good to know
- Free Viewer mode does not include unrestricted sequence editing, alignment or cloning. A full-feature trial lasts 30 days and is limited to one trial per computer.
- Windows on ARM is not officially supported by the publisher.
