What is SolveSpace?

SolveSpace is a parametric CAD tool for drawing parts whose geometry is controlled by dimensions and constraints. Start with a 2D sketch, set relationships such as equal lengths, parallel lines or specified angles, and turn a section into a solid with an extrusion, revolution or helix. Linked parts can form assemblies whose positions are defined by constraints.

Export 2D drawings as DXF, PDF or SVG, triangle meshes as STL or OBJ, and NURBS surfaces as STEP. These outputs support workflows such as preparing a part for 3D printing or passing geometry to separate CAM software. The constraint solver also supports planar and spatial linkage models.

This entry links to the publisher's SolveSpace 3.3 macOS DMG release. The publisher's tutorial screenshots illustrate the modeling interface and Property Browser; they are historical examples, not a verified capture of version 3.3 running on macOS. In version 3.3, zigzag and stippled lines are still omitted from SVG, PDF, EPS and DXF exports, so those line styles should not be relied on in exported drawings.

What it offers

  • Control sketches with dimensions and geometric constraints, including distance, angle, parallel, perpendicular and equal-length relationships.
  • Create solid parts with extrusions, revolutions, helices and Boolean union, difference or intersection operations.
  • Link parts into parametric assemblies and simulate planar or spatial linkages with the constraint solver.
  • Export drawings as DXF, PDF or SVG, meshes as STL or OBJ, and NURBS surfaces as STEP.

Good to know

  • Version 3.3 does not export zigzag or stippled lines to SVG, PDF, EPS or DXF, even though the release fixes a crash associated with those exports.
