What is Tailviewer?
Tailviewer helps you inspect text-based application logs without repeatedly reopening a file as new entries arrive. It can display saved logs offline or follow updates in real time, with searching, log-level controls and a data-source list for working across several files. A timestamp-based merged view brings entries from multiple logs into one reading order.
Filters can match a substring, wildcard or regular expression. Chain them to narrow a result, or invert a filter to hide matching entries. Multiline filtering works on complete log entries: a matching line can keep its surrounding entry visible, which is useful when reading exception stack traces. The publisher also documents ASCII, UTF-8 and UTF-16 support.
The selected download is the Windows installer linked from the publisher homepage, under release v0.9.6 with filename Tailviewer-setup-0.9.6.2.exe. The repository lists Windows 7, 8 and 10 with .NET Framework 4.7.1 or higher. Those statements do not establish Windows 11 compatibility. Its documented live-filtering workload is medium to large logs below 1 GB; performance on larger files is not established by the inspected sources.
What it offers
- Read saved text logs or follow files as entries are added.
- Chain substring, wildcard and regular-expression filters, including inverted matches.
- Filter complete multiline log entries rather than isolated matching lines.
- Open several logs and merge their entries by timestamp.
- Search within logs and filter or highlight entries by log level.
- Read ASCII, UTF-8 and UTF-16 text logs.
Good to know
- The repository documents Windows 7, 8 and 10 and requires .NET Framework 4.7.1 or higher; Windows 11 support is not established by those requirements.
- The README describes live filtering for files below 1 GB. It does not establish performance or support for larger logs.
