What is Texifier?
Texifier is a native macOS editor for writing and typesetting LaTeX documents. It brings source editing, a document outline and PDF output into one workspace, making it useful for a thesis, lecture notes or a book split across several files. Opening the main LaTeX file loads the associated project, including sub-files, bibliographies and stylesheets.
The editor highlights LaTeX and BibTeX syntax and completes commands, reference labels and citation keys. TexpadTeX can render the PDF as you type, while editor/PDF synchronisation helps you move between source and output. A navigable error list provides another way to find the source of a typesetting problem. Global search and replace works across the project.
The download is a macOS DMG for version 1.9.33. It is a trial of commercial software, not a permanently free editor: the publisher allows two weeks of unrestricted use from first launch, after which continued use requires a purchased licence. Older Macs may need a legacy release; the publisher lists 1.9.31 as the last version for macOS Ventura, rather than the version linked here.
What it offers
- Edit LaTeX and BibTeX with syntax highlighting, command completion and reference/citation completion.
- Navigate sections and files through a project outline, including multi-file LaTeX projects.
- Preview PDF output with the live TexpadTeX typesetter and synchronise between source and PDF.
- Find typesetting problems in a navigable error list and search or replace text across a project.
- Use Markdown with PDF output, document templates and configurable code snippets.
Good to know
- The unrestricted trial lasts two weeks from first launch; continued use requires a paid licence.
- Older macOS versions need separate legacy releases. The publisher lists 1.9.31 as the final version for Ventura, 1.9.30 for Monterey and 1.9.21 for Big Sur.
