What is Tiled?
Tiled is a 2D level editor for making game maps rather than playing games. Use tile layers to paint scenery, object layers to position and annotate level elements, and custom properties to attach information your game can read. It supports orthogonal, isometric and hexagonal maps, along with infinite maps that grow as you work.
Terrain tools and rule-based Automapping reduce repetitive tile placement. Projects keep maps and tilesets together, while JavaScript extensions can add tools, actions and file formats. Export options include JSON, Lua and engine-specific formats, so choose a format supported by your game workflow.
Export support has format-specific limits. For example, the documented Godot 4 exporter does not support image layers or collection-of-images tilesets. Check your target engine's exporter requirements before building a level around those features. The linked Tiled 1.12.2 archive is labeled for macOS 13 or later; the publisher offers a separate archive for macOS 10.13–12. The screenshot is a publisher-provided view of Tiled's editor, not a capture of this Mac package running locally.
What it offers

- Export maps to JSON, Lua and supported game-engine formats.
Good to know
- The documented Godot 4 exporter does not support image layers or collection-of-images tilesets; exporter capabilities differ by target format.
- This linked archive is labeled macOS 13+; macOS 10.13–12 requires the publisher's separate package.
