What is UEFITool?

UEFITool for Mac opens UEFI-compatible firmware images and presents their components as a navigable tree. It is useful when you need to inspect the structure of an image and review the parser's integrity information rather than work through the file as undifferentiated binary data. The publisher provides a universal macOS DMG for the NE A76 release.

The distinction between engines matters: although the project describes UEFITool as a viewer and editor, the new engine does not yet provide image reconstruction. The publisher says editing remains confined to the outdated, unsupported 0.28 old engine. A76 also leaves AMD image parsing disabled, and some vendor-specific update containers cannot be parsed correctly. Choose this release for supported-image inspection, not as a promise that every BIOS update can be opened or modified.

The publisher's A76 build configuration targets macOS 11.0 and both Intel x86_64 and Apple silicon arm64. That is build evidence, not a hands-on compatibility test. The screenshot is the publisher's older NE alpha 61 example on a Linux-style desktop; it illustrates the firmware tree and information panels, not the appearance of A76 on macOS.

What it offers

  • Browse a UEFI-compatible firmware image as a structured tree.
  • Review image integrity information produced by the parser.
  • Use the publisher's universal Mac build targeting Intel x86_64 and Apple silicon arm64.

Good to know

  • The new engine does not reconstruct edited images; the publisher identifies the old 0.28 editing engine as outdated and unsupported.
  • AMD image parsing remains disabled in the A76 release.
  • Some vendor-specific firmware containers open incorrectly or cannot be opened, including encrypted HP updates and certain Dell and InsydeFlash files.
