What is Visual Subst?
Visual Subst gives frequently used folders a drive letter so you can reach a project directory without navigating its full path. Its interface brings virtual and network drive mappings together, lets you edit labels and icons, and can restore virtual drives after a reboot. You can disable mappings you do not currently need and enable them again later.
For elevated applications, the UAC Drive option makes mapped drives available where ordinary SUBST mappings may not appear. Visual Subst also offers Recycle Bin support for virtual drives. These features require administrator privileges; UAC Drive is not available to standard user accounts.
A mapped network share remains a remote drive. Visual Subst does not turn it into a local path for applications that reject network shares. The publisher offers a free trial and paid lifetime licenses; this is not presented as a free, open-source edition.
