What is Vuze?
Vuze, formerly Azureus, is a desktop BitTorrent client for downloading and sharing files with peers. It brings torrent status, magnet links, integrated search and media playback into one application. Bandwidth settings let you adjust transfer limits, while the plug-in library offers additional customization. Use it only for files you are entitled to download and share.
This entry links to the archived Vuze 5.7.6.0 Java 8 Mac disk image listed in the project’s SourceForge directory. Softonic lists 5.7.3.0, so its listing version is not used as the version of this download. Neither the archive listing nor the publisher’s Mac page establishes compatibility with current macOS or Apple Silicon; the gallery image also shows an older Mac interface.
SourceForge displays a project-level malware warning. That warning does not identify this particular Mac DMG as infected, but a successful link check is not a safety assessment. The file was checked with HEAD requests only: it was not downloaded, scanned, installed or tested.
Vuze Free and Vuze Plus are not the same feature set. The publisher places ad-free use and playback while a file is still downloading in Plus. Transfers can also stall when peers do not supply the missing pieces; installing a client does not ensure that a torrent will finish.
What it offers
- Download and manage BitTorrent transfers with visible torrent status.
- Open magnet links and use integrated search to find torrent sources.
- Adjust bandwidth settings and extend the client through its plug-in library.
- Play completed media using the player functionality described by the publisher.
Good to know
- SourceForge displays a project-level malware warning; this Mac DMG has not been scanned or assessed for safety.
- The linked 5.7.6.0 package is archived; compatibility with current macOS and Apple Silicon is not established.
- Ad-free use and playback before a download finishes are Vuze Plus features.
- Torrent completion and speed depend on available peers and pieces; use only content you have rights to share.
