What is OpenTelemetry Weaver?
OpenTelemetry Weaver gives developers a command-line workflow for treating telemetry definitions as a versioned interface. Use it to check a semantic-convention registry before changing instrumentation, generate artifacts from templates, or compare registry versions when reviewing schema changes. It is aimed at teams maintaining metrics, traces and logs rather than users looking for a general-purpose Windows utility.
The workflow separates static definitions from emitted data. Registry checks validate schema rules; registry generation produces code or documentation; live-check compares incoming OTLP telemetry with the selected registry. Custom Rego policies and Jinja2-compatible templates let teams express their own checks and outputs. The screenshot is the publisher's example of live-check findings displayed in a GitHub Actions job, not a native Windows application window or a test performed by SoftGalaxy.
This entry links to the publisher's version 0.28.0 x64 Windows MSI. The release also provides a separate ZIP archive. The inspected release page does not specify a minimum Windows version or build, so compatibility with a particular Windows installation is not established here. Live-check needs a registry and emitted telemetry to compare; a downloaded CLI alone does not demonstrate instrumentation coverage.
What it offers
- Validate semantic-convention registries with weaver registry check.
- Resolve registry definitions and compare versions with registry resolve and registry diff.
- Generate code and documentation from schema-driven templates.
- Check emitted OTLP telemetry against a registry with registry live-check.
- Extend validation through Rego policies and generation through Jinja2-compatible templates.
Good to know
- Live-check requires a registry and telemetry emitted by the application; its findings depend on the data supplied.
- The selected installer is x64 Windows only; the inspected release page does not establish a minimum Windows version or build.
