What is Whisky?
Whisky gives Wine a native macOS interface for creating and managing bottles, installing Windows applications and launching games. It combines a SwiftUI front end with technology from CrossOver and Apple's Game Porting Toolkit. A bottle holds the Windows environment and settings for the programs you want to run; the interface exposes configuration without requiring you to manage everything through a terminal.
The project requires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS Sonoma 14.0 or later. It is not an Intel Mac download, and the Windows version shown inside a bottle is a Wine setting, not the host operating-system requirement. The linked ZIP is the project's Whisky 2.3.5 release, published on April 5, 2025.
Maintenance is the main reason to reconsider it for a new setup. Whisky is no longer actively maintained, and its developers warn that apps and games can break at any time. WhiskyWine will receive no further updates or app-specific fixes, including fixes for Steam. The publisher recommends CrossOver instead. Treat Whisky as an existing, discontinued compatibility tool rather than a promise that a current Windows game will work.
