What is wikidPad?
wikidPad is a personal notebook for information that belongs on connected pages rather than in one long document. Type mixed-case names such as TodoList or JohnDoe to create WikiWord links, then follow those links to move between related notes. An outline tree, word completion and incremental search help you find and extend the notebook.
The publisher lists wiki text styling, to-do lists, autosave, URL and file links, and HTML export. This is a standalone desktop application, not a web wiki server or a shared groupware service.
This entry links to the Windows installer for version 2.2, which the publisher labels stable and dates to February 15, 2014. The same site offers 2.3rc02 and 2.4alpha01 separately as prereleases. Compatibility with current Windows releases has not been verified; the publisher documents legacy runtime and installation-path restrictions. The screenshot is an undated historical publisher image of the help notebook, not evidence of the exact 2.2 interface or a new installation test.
What it offers
- Cross-link notes by typing mixed-case WikiWords, with word completion and navigation history.
- Browse connected pages in a tree or outline and use dynamic views.
- Find text with incremental search or search and replace.
- Organize to-do lists, style wiki text and link to URLs or local files.
- Autosave notes and export wiki content to HTML.
Good to know
- A single-user desktop notebook, not a web server or groupware solution.
- The selected stable release is 2.2 from 2014; compatibility with current Windows versions is unverified. Version 2.0 and later do not support Windows 98 or ME.
- The publisher requires an installation path containing only ASCII characters and documents a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime dependency when startup fails with code 14001.
