What is WindTerm?

WindTerm brings remote connections and local command-line work into one tabbed interface. It supports SSH, Telnet and serial sessions alongside Windows Command Prompt and PowerShell, with an integrated SFTP/SCP client for file transfers. A session tree, split views and command completion help organize repeated work across different connections.

Version 2.7.0 adds tmux integration that maps sessions, windows and panes into the native interface. This entry links to the publisher’s Windows x64 portable ZIP; extract the package before using it. A separate 32-bit Windows package is listed on the release page.

The publisher lists specific limits: tmux integration does not support nesting, Sender Pane or Sync Input. On Windows, ZMODEM transfers with non-ASCII filenames may produce garbled filenames even though file contents remain correct. WindTerm is free for commercial and non-commercial use, but the publisher describes it as only partially open source.

What it offers

  • Open SSH, Telnet and serial connections, plus local Command Prompt and PowerShell sessions.
  • Transfer and manage files with the integrated SFTP/SCP client and local file manager.
  • Organize connections with a session tree, tabs and split views.
  • Use command completion and a command palette for terminal work.
  • Display tmux sessions, windows and panes through native interface integration.

Good to know

  • Tmux integration does not support nested sessions, Sender Pane or Sync Input.
  • Windows ZMODEM transfers may garble non-ASCII filenames; the publisher says file contents are unaffected.
  • Only part of the source code is published; the Apache-2.0 statement applies to released source code except third-party code.
