What is yWriter?
yWriter is a Windows word processor for drafting a novel in separate scenes rather than managing one long document. Group scenes into chapters, move them as the story changes, and keep character, location and item details alongside the manuscript. Scene fields for viewpoint, goal, conflict and outcome help you track the structure of a draft.
Project and scene word counts show writing progress, while the storyboard gives a visual overview. Automatic backups and scene snapshots preserve earlier work. Selected chapters can be exported to RTF for editing elsewhere; yWriter7 also offers EPUB and MOBI export.
The Windows edition is free to download and use, with optional registration. It is an organization and drafting tool, not a system that writes prose or suggests plots. The publisher lists Windows 7 SP1 or newer and .NET Framework 4.8 or newer.
