What is Zeal?

Zeal puts downloaded programming references in a searchable desktop library. It suits looking up an API or language feature without switching to an online documentation site. Its docsets use the same format as Dash, and the publisher lists references for languages and tools including C++, Python and JavaScript.

Choose the references you need in File → Docset Library and download them before working offline. To narrow a search, prefix it with a docset name, such as cpp:vector. A comma-separated prefix can search several collections at once, as in python, django:string. Zeal also accepts a query from the command line.

This entry links to the publisher's version 0.9.1 Windows x64 MSI installer. ARM64 installers and portable archives are separate options on the official download page. Windows builds require Windows 10 version 1809 or later; documentation must be downloaded separately before offline use.

What it offers

  • Browse downloaded documentation without an internet connection.
  • Use Dash-compatible docsets for a local programming reference library.
  • Filter a query to one docset or a comma-separated group of docsets.
  • Start a documentation search from the command line.

Good to know

  • Download the docsets you need before working offline; installing Zeal alone does not prepare those references.
  • Windows builds require Windows 10 version 1809 or later. The linked x64 installer is not the separate ARM64 package.
