What is Aircrack-ng?
Aircrack-ng is an open-source suite for assessing Wi-Fi network security, including packet monitoring, capture analysis and checking wireless-card capabilities. It supports WEP and WPA/WPA2-PSK analysis, with command-line tools suited to scripted work. Use it only on networks you own or have explicit permission to assess.
The publisher offers version 1.7 as a Windows ZIP containing binaries and sources. Windows is not the suite’s primary platform, and this is not a plug-and-play Wi-Fi utility: its Windows documentation supports only a subset of commands and identifies AirPcap as the supported capture hardware. Other wireless adapters require custom DLL development; those DLLs are not supplied or supported by the Windows download.
There is no Windows installer. Extract the archive and use the included tools from their extracted directory. The documentation also describes an optional GUI requiring .NET 4.6.1. Neither the available package nor the historical publisher screenshot establishes compatibility with a particular modern Windows build or adapter. The screenshot shows Aircrack-ng 1.0 in a PuTTY terminal, not a new test of version 1.7.
What it offers
- Command-line Wi-Fi security assessment tools for monitoring, capture analysis and wireless-card capability checks.
- WEP and WPA/WPA2-PSK analysis within the suite.
- Packet capture and text export for further processing, subject to platform, driver and adapter support.
- Windows ZIP distribution containing binaries and source code; no installation program.
Good to know
- Windows supports only a limited subset of the suite’s commands; airmon-ng is Linux/FreeBSD only.
- The Windows documentation identifies AirPcap as supported. Other adapters require your own wireless-card DLLs, which the download does not supply or support.
- Exact Windows 10/11 build compatibility and the selected archive’s architecture are not established by the inspected sources.
