What is AquaTerm?
AquaTerm gives command-line and scientific programs a Mac graphics display. Rather than providing a spreadsheet or a point-and-click chart editor, it receives drawing commands from another application through its API. Programs can send lines, polygons, text and images to the viewer; the API can also pass display-window events back to the client. The project lists adapters for gnuplot, PGPLOT and PLplot, alongside language bindings for integrating other code.
The linked disk image is AquaTerm 1.1.1, a legacy Intel Mac release. Its ReadMe specifies Mac OS X 10.5 or later and says the language adapters and BridgeSupport were not tested with that release. That historical minimum is not confirmation of compatibility with current macOS or Apple Silicon. The screenshot is from the publisher's archived website and shows an older AquaTerm/gnuplot workflow, not a verified view of version 1.1.1.
What it offers
- Display vector graphics, text and images sent by command-line applications.
- Draw lines and polygons and place or transform images through the application API.
- Connect plotting tools through the project's gnuplot, PGPLOT and PLplot adapters.
- Pass events from a display window back to the client program.
- Save or copy plotting output as PDF or EPS, as documented in the project release history.
Good to know
- AquaTerm is a graphics viewer driven by client programs, not a standalone visual chart-authoring application.
- The 1.1.1 release is Intel-only; compatibility with current macOS releases and Apple Silicon has not been verified here.
- The publisher's 1.1.1 ReadMe explicitly says the language adapters and BridgeSupport were not tested with that release.
