What is NUSGet?

NUSGet is a free, open-source desktop utility for retrieving Wii, vWii and DSi content from Nintendo Update Servers. It combines a title list and Title ID entry with options for keeping encrypted files, creating decrypted .app files or packing an installable archive. Batch scripts let you request multiple titles across the supported consoles.

The important distinction is ticket availability. NUSGet can retrieve encrypted contents, but decryption and WAD/TAD packing are supported only for free titles with a ticket freely available on the servers. Wii and vWii titles use WAD archives; DSi titles use TAD archives. The vWii-specific option re-encrypts the title key using the Wii Common Key before WAD packing.

This download is the publisher’s standard Windows x86_64 ZIP archive for version 1.5.3, not the separate onefile archive. Extract the ZIP to access NUSGet.exe; the publisher’s basic usage instructions are to run the executable for your platform. Downloaded titles go to NUSGet Downloads inside your Downloads folder by default, and a custom output folder can be selected.

The v1.5.3 release notes say Windows builds are signed, superseding the README’s older unsigned-build warning. The same release notes caution that SmartScreen may still identify the app as unknown; signing is not a guarantee that a warning will not appear. The bundled binary’s exact minimum Windows version is not established by the sources used here: the README’s Windows 8.1 statement belongs to its Python source-build requirements.

What it offers

  • Retrieve encrypted title contents from Nintendo Update Servers for Wii, vWii and DSi.
  • Create decrypted .app files or pack WAD/TAD archives for free titles with an available ticket.
  • Re-encrypt vWii title keys using the Wii Common Key before WAD packing.
  • Run batch download scripts spanning the supported consoles.
  • Open the output folder from the interface or select a custom download directory.

Good to know

  • Decryption and installable archive packing are limited to free titles with a ticket freely available on the servers; encrypted downloads alone do not remove that restriction.
  • The publisher warns that SmartScreen may still mark the signed Windows release as an unknown app.
  • The exact minimum Windows version for the selected prebuilt v1.5.3 archive is not confirmed by the cited publisher documentation.
