What is Pauker?

Pauker is a desktop flashcard program for studying information in pairs, such as a word and its translation. The project describes a learning method that combines ultra-short-term, short-term and long-term memory. It is a focused option for practising vocabulary, capitals or important dates rather than a general classroom platform.

The Windows gallery shows the front and reverse of a card side by side, a Next card control, learning timers and a statistics panel separating unlearned cards from memory stages. These views help explain the study workflow: memorise the pair, move through the cards and review progress through the stages. This description is based on publisher information and a source-hosted screenshot, not a hands-on software test.

This entry links to the stable 1.8 Windows EXE listed in the official project archive, dated December 25, 2008. The archive also contains a separate Java JAR package. Pauker is written in Java, but the sources inspected do not establish the Java version required by this old Windows package or its compatibility with Windows 10 and 11. Check those requirements before relying on it for current coursework.

What it offers

  • Study flashcards for vocabulary, capitals, dates and other paired facts.
  • Use a learning method combining ultra-short-term, short-term and long-term memory.
  • View card fronts and reverse sides in the study interface.
  • Follow learning statistics and timed study stages shown in the Windows gallery.

Good to know

  • The selected stable 1.8 Windows package dates from 2008; current Windows 10/11 compatibility and the required Java version are not confirmed by the inspected sources.
  • No installer was downloaded or run. A successful HEAD check establishes the download endpoint and MIME type, not installation success or software safety.
