What is Thetis HL2?

Thetis HL2 is mi0bot’s Windows fork of Thetis for the Hermes-Lite 2 software-defined radio transceiver. It provides a desktop interface for radio operation, with spectrum and waterfall displays and settings tailored to HL2 hardware. It is for operators connecting to a physical radio, not a standalone source of radio signals.

The setup interface includes a HERMES LITE radio model, regional band-plan selection, network settings and Hermes Lite hardware options. The project’s setup documentation also covers virtual audio, filter-board configuration and temperature/current display. These controls make the HL2-specific build distinct from the general Thetis branch used with Anan radios; do not treat the two configurations as interchangeable.

The linked package is the Windows x64 MSI for final release 2.10.3.15. Its release notes say no prior installation of official Thetis is required and an existing official installation is not overwritten. Back up the radio database before changing versions, keep separate databases for different radio types, and check transmit power before operating. Legacy spot support has been removed; the publisher recommends a third-party application through TCI when spectrum spots are needed.

What it offers

  • Hermes-Lite 2 radio selection and hardware-specific configuration.
  • Spectrum and waterfall displays for radio monitoring.
  • Virtual audio setup for use with external radio applications.
  • Database manager with separate radio databases selected through the -dbid: option.
  • Release 2.10.3.15 corrects the auto-tune timeout and updates alternate receiver selection.

Good to know

  • Requires compatible radio hardware and configuration; the HL2 workflow uses an Ethernet-connected Hermes-Lite 2 transceiver.
  • HL2-aware databases may not work correctly in the general official Thetis build; back up databases and keep radio-specific configurations separate.
  • Legacy spot support is removed; spectrum spots require an external application through TCI.
  • Direct I2C controls are for experienced users: the hardware project warns that incorrect PA-bias changes can permanently damage the radio.
