UEFITool
Inspect UEFI firmware images as a structured tree with UEFITool NE A76 for Windows. This free, open-source viewer does not reconstruct edited firmware images.
- Operating system
- Windows; exact minimum Windows version/build not established by the cited A76 sources
- Architecture
- 64-bit Windows (win64)
- Download package
- ZIP archive: UEFITool_NE_A76_win64.zip
The publisher also lists a separate win32 archive. Softonic's Vista listing concerns old 0.28.0 and is not evidence of A76 compatibility.

What is UEFITool?
UEFITool helps firmware researchers inspect the internal structure of UEFI-compatible firmware images. Its C++/Qt interface presents the parsed image as a tree and checks its structural integrity, making it useful when the task is understanding an image rather than changing a live machine's firmware settings. The Windows download linked here is the publisher's 64-bit NE A76 ZIP archive.
The engine distinction matters: although the project is described broadly as a viewer and editor, the new engine still lacks image reconstruction routines. The publisher says image editing is confined to the outdated, unsupported UEFITool 0.28 branch. Do not choose A76 expecting the old branch's editing workflow. A76 also leaves AMD image parsing disabled, and some vendor-specific update containers may fail to open or parse incorrectly.
The screenshot is a historical UEFITool 0.22.1 Windows interface from Softonic's gallery, showing an image row, an extraction context menu, an information pane and a messages pane. It illustrates the older interface, not the appearance or feature set of NE A76.
What it offers
- Parse UEFI-compatible firmware images into a browsable tree structure.
- Inspect image elements through a graphical C++/Qt interface.
- Check firmware-image structural integrity during parsing.
- Use publisher-provided Windows binaries rather than building the application from source.
Good to know
- NE A76 lacks image reconstruction routines; editing remains limited to the outdated, unsupported 0.28 old_engine branch.
- AMD image parsing is not re-enabled in A76.
- Some vendor-specific containers, including encrypted HP updates, Dell HDR/EXE files and certain InsydeFlash FD files, may parse incorrectly or not open.
- Intel Firmware Interface Table (FIT) editing is unsupported.
